I'm talking about stuff like Naruto or Bleach or Fairly Tail. Even if a series ended at 600 episodes, how can it be worth all that time? I thought you wanted a finished long running show? Coz of their epic storylines, there long as hell and so much happens and you see all your favourite (and not so favourite) characters grow as the show goes on. Seeing small details slowly connect to form into something much bigger than you originally thought and get blown away lol also since its long, you have more time to learn about the world and how it works and theirs a lot of that in long running shows. On top of that, there easy to get into. You can turn your thinking cap to a minimum and just watch n enjoy without having to pay extra attention to detail. Ill try n tell you what I like n what are there drawbacks are. Warning, VERY long amount of text lol Bleach is one of my faves and has a decent story, most of it involves powerups. The best arc is the Soul Society arc but its the 1st 1 and the rest just sort of expands upon it and the author tends to not let things go so u'll be kinda pissed wondering when it'll move on. Thats definitely its biggest downfall. (Its completed) Naruto sort of stuffers from the same problem as Bleach but it has MUCH more going on to make up for it, lots of hidden truths and plot twists. Its an AMAZING soundtrack to boot. Its biggest downfall however is stretching. I call Naruto the most stretched of em all and it quite unbearable. You seen DBZ? Remember the fight scenes feel like they'll never end? Its like that. Its sequel, Shippuden however drastically cuts it down and is just overall better than the original show. Its still there though. Fairy Tail is going to disapoint you the most, its mostly focus on one arc and then move on with very little details carrying over for a main "plot". It has the clichés you can think of including the infamous "Nakama Power" and they use that a shit ton! I still enjoyed it but I gave up around the 170+ mark. Takes 20 episodes till it gets good too. Its biggest selling point is the soundtrack and it is godly. One Piece This is a show I may be a little bias towards but it is by far, imo, the best long running shounen out there. 1st thing is the characters, they are extremely different to one another and all have their own seperate goal and dreams, including the MC. The MC gathers them all together to form a pirate crew on the promise that he won't get in the way of their own dream while they help him with his. One Piece has the most unique and biggest world, the sea and that leaves so many possibilities for plots and mystery, meeting new people and learning of peoples culture. Thats its biggest selling point. One Piece's other big attractions are the characters, plot and comedy. The timing of the jokes is unreal and would have you in stitches a lot of the times. The plot is gigantic and full in rich detail, the author Oda really knows what he is doing. Ive caught up to it and the plot twists Ive seen recently and other smaller things just connect with past events, even events that you figured were long and finished are suddenly made bigger with all those new reveals and the amount of secrets that are still left are just made to seem bigger n bigger till there finally revealed and usually they live up to the hype. The enemies the characters face off against are a true threat like people make em out yo be. Ive already explained the MCs and how there all unique from each other in terms of personality and goals but theres more to it. There backstories. Almost every Single character shown has a backstory, even the minor characters that have little impact on the story have there own history waiting to be shown and a lot of times those stories are tragic and shit hurts man *sniff sniff*. Awesome soundtrack too. Drawbacks are animation, stretching and Even art. It starts off fine and Even gets better as it goes on but slowly it starts to decrease to the state it is now. Bad pacing due horrible stretching, probs as bad as Naruto. Animation looks like some cheap 12 episode anime with still pictures but effects being used to give off the impression of movement. Only big important scenes like the MC struggling to get to his feat would have more effort put into it and its a shame coz we Toei could do better but won't. Oay I think I went on LONG enough over those and especially with One Piece lol I think it really depends on what your after and what you can tolerate. Some shows like Fairy Tail aren't that satisfying in the long run due to its lack of a main plot and character development where as other shows like Naruto and One Piece would satisfy you with their plot and character development. Fillers play another factor. You can always skip em but its a bitch once you catch up, you may want to watch em and some blend well with Canon storyline while others don't. Bleach is the one that doesn't. If I was to do my rank em from best to worst, I guess it'll be One Piece Naruto Bleach Fairy Tail. Everyone has different opinions and some have bigger fanbase that would tell you otherwise, Naruto having the biggest. Theres also the fact that there long as hell and if you like the show then you have the benifet of it not ending so soon. Nuttin more annoying than comin back home from work and knowing your fave show has endes. Thats the best explanation I can give and I hope it answered your question and I didn't go overboard LOL |

I'll just try to fit it in where it fits with some of the more heavier anime so to speak. Most of those forever airing anime are easy enough to follow anyways, depending on how long it takes me to get back to it. I think it's more suited for the casual watcher imo. The only thing for me is I might get bored and or forget about it. |

Yes, bcuz they are long. Long running anime tend to get a lot of hate, the only reason I don't watch them is bcuz I don't have time to. I really wanna watch one piece but, 700 episodes is way too long for me. You can watch tons of anime with that time. |

Mayuka said: No, but they get lower priority on my list because I don't have the memory span or dedication to keep up with them. Hell, I consider anything above two cours pretty long nowadays. This is exactly how I feel except yes, I avoid them. I have exactly one anime on my list that is over a hundred episodes and that is Gintama. The only reason I'm even watching it is because of a challenge on a forum. The longest anime I've watched is 52 episodes, and that was when I had first started watching anime and had more time and was more concentrated. My ADHD with activities is getting worse lately. In short, yes. I avoid them. |

My boyfriend, all he really watches is long anime(Those are his favorites:Naruto and One Piece) but even he admits he doesn't have the time for it. Imagine how much anime he could have watched if he wasn't so hooked on the other long-running ones? |

That depends on how much time you have, like i am 13 now and i have a lot of free time so i can and have watched all of them(naruto, onepiece, bleach etc).so basically it depends on your age. |

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi! I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom: "Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news. Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people. Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation. There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime. You should be watching Carole & Tuesday." |

The author writes page-long paragraphs. That's because he explores an extremely vile character while making him understandable. He wrestles with both understanding and condemning that character. |

The thing they all have in common is getting stronger through experience and gaining power to be among the elites of that world whether that was their intention or not. Its about the Journey of moving from being nothing into something and sometimes, 25 to 50 episodes ain't enough to convey that because they have a limit and they want the ability to put lots n lots of work into each arc, each character each area, the characters backstory, the areas history. 100+ animes like those big shows allow them freedom to express em in anyway they want with little restriction from time. They wanna go through there lives, Piece by piece. One Piece's first 20ish episodes is still just introducing characters and fleshing em out but none of it feels wasted since you have the world to learn about to and as I said before, its massive and is still growing 17 years later. Yiu cam say that they are the real escape from reality anime because there sort of never ending. Theres more I wanna say but I cant put it into words lol |

Yes. Unless it's Gintama xD Well I used to follow long running anime a long time ago, but they were such a hassle to follow, what with all the fillers and stuff. :/ It's also daunting to watch an already long anime (like idk.. one piece... fairy tail..... detective conan), cause you have to hurry up and catch up to the latest ep, yet you also have a lot of other anime in your PTW. Such a dilemma really. :P I would probably watch one again if I'm able to watch the show as a seasonal (sort of) |

I like watching long running anime because I get more content if I actually like the anime. I love detective conan and I do not regret watching 800 plus episodes because I enjoyed the content. |

Yes, I must admit I do. I got into anime during highschool by obviously watching the sacred 4. Now I completely lost track of them and when I see a large ass anime I get bummed out cos I need a beginning, reasonable development of the story and chars (no dragging along) and an ending. |

daAmazinFatB0y said: ]Even though none of it carrys over in the main story? Well, typically it does carry over. That's my point of mentioning training filler. It's just there's a fine limit to how much consistent filler there should be imo. Training or not, too much gets boring. Especially if the whole episode(s) are filler and not just segments within the episode(s). If it gets to that point I'd rather pause and resume at a later date then skipping. I guess kinda like how some people complete anime even if they dislike it. Just a completion-ist thing, pretty much. |

I don't outright avoid them, since I'm in the middle of Bleach, Inuyasha, Fairy Tail and Naruto, but I don't watch many & I do usually lose interest after watching a ton of episodes and end up putting them on hold for however long it takes me to recover from all the sameness of long-running shows. I'm not sure that I'll ever start One Piece, though; I'm not super excited about it based on the plot anyway, and 700+ episodes means I could be watching an episode a day for the next 2+ years! |

I think I have such a big need for variety that I could never watch any of the long running shounen for very long until I drop it. especially if there is no end in site i think the only show I think I could watch forever no matter how long it runs is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. mainly because as it goes on it changes main characters and changes the very feel of the show. keeping it fresh enough to appeal to my needs in a show. |

Thats the best explanation I can give and I hope it answered your question and I didn't go overboard LOL I was referring more to the never-ending show, less to extremely long shows that still ended. What you wrote about are the examples I referred to. I like your comment, but what I lack is the purpose of these stories. Stories aren't just about telling a nice story. Rather, what's their purpose? Their ideas? The experience they want to transmit? Why do they need to be this long? For example, the novel American Tragedy is extremely long and dense. Theres more I wanna say but I cant put it into words lol Why should I care about them 'getting stronger'? STR stats aren't meaningful. I can hack Baldur's Gate and increase my character's STR too. not at all...I do like to keep some "infinite series" for slow days/seasons but only if they are episodic I like to watch at least 2 episodes from any anime per day, so if the season doesn't fill that quote I watch Detective Conan :) im currently on episode 120-ish so there still a long way to go XD |

Yes...but most of the time. I never did care for series like One Piece or Naruto, but I watched a few long series like Urusei Yatsura, which I just loved, and Dragon Ball Z. Most of the time, though, shorter series are just better, and I do not get bored with them after watching hundreds of episodes. |

That moment when you got sucked into series so much, and even if it gets worse and worse, you can't just leave it behind. Yes, I'm talking about Naruto. It's not that I'm avoiding it. I'd rather read long manga than watch long running anime. 20 to 80 episodes per series is the best. |

HxH 2011 is definitely the only long running anime that worth to watch beside LoGH. although the early arcs art are rather childish, it develop in the next arc, even very gory (from eps 40)... but it doesn't mean the early episodes are bad, they're very good too and definitely worth to rewatch, I think someone who don't like it do not understand the complexity of nen and pay a close attention to the foreshadowing of the characters.. |

Sometimes i avoid anime in general. Don't know why, i just don't feel like i'm in the mood to sit down and wtach. But to answer your question, i don't really avoid long running anime, but i also don't watch anime like these all the time. I could also drop one, even if i watched already many episodes |

I haven't watched much of anything with over 100 eps, and am slowly trying to trek through HxH, so yeah. While the concepts for long running shows usually aren't my thing, the longevity certainly deters me from watching them, since 700 episodes is a lot of catchup and there are only 24 hours in a day. Naruto never really appealed to me from the get-go, and neither did Bleach, and while I've been roped into watching some One Piece and it's kinda interesting, I can't imagine ever finishing it in this lifetime lmao |

Yes. I avoid long-running anime in general, although Fairy Tail is an exception because I got hooked into it before I could figure it had more than just 20-something episodes. I watched it first on TV where the airing ended after the Raijin tribe arc, but I went online and found out [fortunately aaand unfortunately] that it had more. |

Yep, if they started airing when I was watching I wouldn't mind, but I just can't have the motivation to start a long story, and even less if they are not even finished yet (specially if said story is in hiatus). I won't even bother watching HxH or D-Gray Man no matter how good they are because after 100+ episodes I will want a conclussion and it's not going to be there. The longest anime I watched are the monogatari series and JoJo, the fact that they are divided in parts really helped me watching them because I always had a point to stop after the end of a season to just take my time before having the motivating to continue (if I stopped them). But I just want to avoid what happened to me with Gintama, I watched 100+ episodes, I wasn't interested anymore and I dropped it, and now I feel like I wasted hours and hours in something that I didn't enjoy, and it was just not worth it. |

Yes. Although sometimes when i finished a short anime (12-24ish episodes), i wanted them to have more episode, but then again if they do have more episode i probably won't even watch them in the first place |

Not really but I just don't have time to remember what happened or watch the fillers *cough* Naruto Shippuden *cough* but I mean the plot is very interesting, it just depends on how dedicated you are for it |

Some are okay to me, but I just more less watch them while I'm in bed or when I'm doing something else intensive like work. When I'm able to carve out some time to relax I usually try to focus on more short intensive stories though. I'm a huge sucker for Inuyasha :( |
