SOHO, NEW YORK — Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer, a burger joint in Manhattan, is famous for its wild, tricked out milkshakes. By CHLOE., a vegan restaurant in New York and LA, is known for making vegan food trendy and Instagram-friendly.

Well, Black Tap and by CHLOE. have partnered together to create a gorgeous vegan milkshake, available in New York City this weekend only.

Mashable recently visited Black Tap on Broome Street in SoHo to try the dairy-free creation.

We sat down to chat about the over-the-top shakes with by CHLOE. co-founder and creative director Samantha Wasser.

"We've always, at by CHLOE., been huge fans of what Black Tap is doing," said Wasser. "But there wasn't as much crossover. People that may be coming to Black Tap Burger aren't necessarily going to by CHLOE because they're scared of vegan food or just haven't tried it, and people that are vegan aren't coming to Black Tap Burger because they have ice cream and burgers."

The Black Tap-by CHLOE. hybrid is sure to bridge the gap between the two differing cuisines.

The gravity defying vegan milkshake consists of Chill by CHLOE. coconut ice "cream," a vanilla frosted sprinkled rim topped with a mountain of rice-based whipped "cream" and is garnished with a Chlostess cupcake and a pink whirly pop.

The shake's appearance was its best feature – we watched Black Tap Manager Jennifer Marie Ray, a true milkshake artist, carefully create the drink. She put multiple spoons into the glass to help the cupcake and lollipop keep their balance, and when the whipped cream didn't come out perfectly the first time, she wiped it away and tried again.

By the time we sat down to eat the milkshake, the rice-based whipped cream was steadily trickling down the glass – the milkshake artist's advice was to enjoy it while it's cold, and she was definitely right.

The shake itself was tasty – a crisp, chocolatey, coconut-y combination. We tried to break into the pink swirly lollipop, but it was too sticky to snap in half or peel the wrapper off of, so we didn't get to try it.

The milkshake's starring feature was the Chlostess cupcake – it was sweet and a great consistency. The cupcake was the one element that I couldn't believe truly had no dairy in it. I'm a milk and butter girl at heart, but I surely didn't miss either of them when it came to the cupcake.

"It's not just people that are vegan that are eating a vegan dessert," said Wasser. She explained how vegan desserts appeal to people beyond just vegans – for example, those who cannot eat dairy or have a sensitivity to it and those on certain diets.

"I think that it really extends and appeals to people beyond being vegan. And the stuff just tastes really good – you can eat it and it doesn't even taste vegan," she said.

"I think that's also why we've been so successful, is that it happens to be vegan but at the end of the day, it's just really good."
